What counts as a machine?
Any Linux endpoint running the DistroDrift agent counts as one machine. Virtual machines, containers with systemd, bare metal servers, Raspberry Pis — if it runs the agent, it's a machine.
Can I upgrade from Starter to Pro?
Yes. You can upgrade at any time from within your dashboard. Your existing machines, commands, and history all carry over — nothing is lost.
Is there a free trial for Pro?
The Starter plan is effectively your free trial — it includes every feature Pro has, just capped at 5 machines. Use it as long as you want, then upgrade when you outgrow it.
Do I need a credit card to start?
No. The Starter plan is completely free and requires no payment information. You'll only need a payment method if you decide to upgrade to Pro.
What happens if I exceed my machine limit?
On the Starter plan, new machines won't be able to register once you hit 5. Your existing machines keep working normally. Upgrade to Pro to add more.
Is the agent open source?
The agent is proprietary software provided by Edge Case Software, LLC. It uses only the Python 3 standard library and has zero third-party dependencies, so you can inspect exactly what it does on your endpoints.
What operating systems are supported?
DistroDrift supports any Linux distribution with Python 3 and systemd — Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL, CentOS, Rocky, Alma, Fedora, SUSE, Arch, and more. macOS support for basic monitoring is on the roadmap.
